Buchanan began his racing journey in junior speedway before transitioning to road racing in 2019 at the age of 12, competing in the Oceania Junior Cup in Australia. He quickly made his mark in New Zealand’s national championships.
In 2021, Buchanan was selected for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, marking his entry into European competition. That same year, he also competed in the British Talent Cup, achieving three podium finishes. Eventually he moved up to the FIM JuniorGP World Championship, until 2025 when he has made his debut in the Moto3 World Championship with DENSSI Racing Boe.
